SN: OCTOBER 26, 2026 (PA DAY)

SPOOKY SCIENCE

Kick start the Halloween excitement with a day of eerie and enchanting chemistry experiments with Science North! Kids will dive into the mysterious world of chemical reactions through Halloween-themed activities, including creating bubbling potions, exploring the science of glow-in-the-dark materials, and concocting colorful slime. They'll learn about the properties of different substances and the magic of chemistry in a fun and festive environment. Join us for a thrilling PA Day where science meets spookiness, and post-Halloween fun is guaranteed!

INSECT ENCOUNTERS

Get up close and personal with some of Science North's insects and gastropods during Insect Encounters. Campers will discover the incredible diversity of bugs and learn about their important roles in nature. Through hands-on activities, games, and close-up observations, campers will investigate insect habitats, life cycles, adaptations, and behaviours. Then go back in time to discover how we learn about pre-historic insects while creating your own edible insect in amber.

SN: NOVEMBER 20, 2026 (PA DAY)

ROBO READY

Get Robo Ready and step into the exciting world of coding and robotics. This hands on camp introduces campers to the basics of coding and let them apply those skills with different types of robots. Through fun games, creative challenges, and engaging activities, participants will discover how coding helps robots move, make decisions, and complete tasks.

GAME ON

Ever wondered what makes your favourite video games and tabletop games so engaging? In Game On, campers will explore the science, technology, and math behind the games they love. Through hands-on activities, they'll experiment with game mechanics, world building, and coding while uncovering the principles that shape gameplay, strategy, and player experience. Whether you're a gamer, a problem-solver, or a creative thinker, Game On blends learning and fun to reveal the secrets behind great game design.

MICRO EXPLORERS

ROBO BUILDERS

Build, code, and create with LEGO^® SPIKE! This hands-on camp introduces campers to the exciting world of robotics, engineering, and coding through fun and engaging challenges. Using LEGO SPIKE kits, participants will design and build robots, learn coding fundamentals, and explore how technology can solve real-world problems.

Throughout the week, campers will work individually and in teams to complete creative building projects, program robotic movements, and tackle exciting engineering missions.

LET'S BUILD IT!

Put your creativity and problem-solving skills to the test! Campers will explore the exciting world of engineering by learning the engineering design process, and hands on building challenges. design and construct towers, bridges, vehicles and other innovative creation in Let's Build it!

TECHLAB

Step into the TechLab and unleash your inner inventor as you tinker, build, and explore through the exciting world of engineering and technology! Put your critical thinking skills to the test as you design and build your own chain reaction, learning how energy, force, and motion work together to create amazing results. Experiment with pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and discover how air and water pressure can be used to lift, move, and power machines. Then take a behind the scenes look in the 4ᵀᴴ floors Prototype lab to see how 3D printers and laser cutters work.

In this hands-on camp, you'll design and build your own electrical circuits, learn the basics of soldering, and discover how electricity flows to power the technology we use every day. Then, harness the power of the sun by exploring solar energy and testing solar-powered devices. LEADERSHIP LAB

Think like a team, lead like a scientist and experience March Break in a new way. This camp is designed for young teens who are ready to take on challenges, grow their leadership skills, and discover the power of working together. Teens will learn to approach problems the way scientists do by breaking down and building up science experiments, exploring teamwork through neuroscience, and leading their own scientific projects.

Teens won’t just leave with great memories—they’ll walk away with confidence, stronger leadership skills, and the ability to think like scientists and act like teammates.

LEADERSHIP LAB

Step into the STEAM Studio and see how science and art are interconnected. Learn the differences between digital and physical sculpting as you bring your ideas to life in both virtual and hands-on formats. Investigate the role of symmetry, patterns, and mathematics in art by designing and creating your own unique prints. Then harness the power of nature as you experiment with sun-activated natural pigments to create stunning works of art inspired by the science of light and colour. This creative camp encourages curiosity, innovation, and problem-solving while showing campers that art and science are more connected than they might think.

BEAT THE HEAT

Beat the Heat this June with the power of science! Campers will discover the fascinating ways science helps us stay cool on the hottest days of the year. Campers will explore cool endothermic reactions, investigate adaptations animals use to survive in the hottest climates and will top it off by making a sweet frozen treat.
- For ages 4–5, 6–8, and 9–11

OUTDOOR ADVENTURES

Get outside and explore the world around you! Discover nature from a whole new perspective as you investigate local ecosystems and uncover the fascinating creatures living beneath the surface of Ramsey Lake. Using various scientific tools, you'll collect samples, identify aquatic organisms, and learn what they can tell us about the health of the environment. Then, put your navigation skills to the test as you learn how GPS technology works and use it to find your way through exciting challenges. Get ready to explore, discover, and connect with nature like never before!

PA DAY & HOLIDAY CAMPS FAQs

WHAT TIME DOES THE PA DAY / HOLIDAY CAMP START?

Group work starts at 9:00am, and finishes up around 4:00pm. See the daily itinerary for a breakdown of our day. In Sudbury, staff are onsite at 7:30am until 5:45pm, In Thunder Bay, staff are onsite at 8:00am until 5:30pm.

WHAT TIME DO EARLY / LATE PROGRAMS START AND FINISH?

In Sudbury, the extended hours option starts at 7:30am and runs until 5:45pm.

In Thunder Bay, the extended hours option starts at 8:00am and runs until 5:30pm.

Our experience is that children react best to this slot when it is not highly structured versus the rest of their day.

The parent ‘experience’ ends at the drop-off area this year. We will smile while you give your child a hug, and then escort them to their respective space and instructor for the day.

WHAT IS THE ATTENDANCE POLICY?

Parents are asked to sign their child in every morning, and out every evening in all of our programs. In order to ensure the safety of your child, you or your designated caregiver may be asked for ID at pick-up time, so please be prepared. Science North will call the parent of any participant who was not signed out to ensure they have arrived home safely. If your child will be leaving early, please notify the Program Coordinator at each site, and arrangements will be made to have your child ready at the appropriate time.

WHY DO I HAVE TO SHOW PHOTO ID WHEN I PICK UP MY CHILD?

Photo ID is the simplest system for us to match a face and the name that you have provided as your designate for pick-up. We want to make sure we have the right name and the right person so that all the right family connections are made in your best interests.

WHAT IS THE BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE OF YOUR STAFF?

We have a talented group of young people with a passion for children, science education and Northern Ontario. Their educational profiles can range from teachers and science graduates to post-secondary students in topics as diverse as speech pathology or physics. All staff must have a current police check for the vulnerable sector.

HOW CAN I CONTACT THE PROGRAM WHEN IT IS IN PROGRESS?

All sites have a cellphone for use by the site supervisor. He / she will display that number near your sign in/out sheets at each location. If you cannot reach the site supervisor by cell, call Science North at 705-523-3188 and they will connect you with someone who may have alternate communication methods.

CAN I BUY A LUNCH PACKAGE OR SNACKS?

Science North doesn’t offer any food packages or snacks outside of the Science North and Dynamic Earth sites. You must provide food for your child. We strongly suggest you send some kind of snack along with their lunch to keep your child going. Some children will arrive onsite at 7:30am (if a site option) and lunch isn't until noon. We take a pause / snack break mid-morning and afternoon, and anything as simple as an apple or crackers makes a difference.

WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD WEAR?

The weather of the day will dictate how much we are in and outside. Since there's a chance for an impromptu game of soccer at lunch or a walk onsite, please make sure your child has appropriate footwear and is wearing clothes you are comfortable with getting dirty (just in case)!

SHOULD MY CHILD BRING HIS / HER CELLPHONE OR OTHER ELECTRONICS?

We strongly recommend against sending your child with electronic gizmos that could accidentally be damaged or lost.

HOW DO I FIND OUT WHAT YOU HAVE PLANNED FOR THE DAY?

Each location will have a copy of its program outline for the day in the area where you sign in and out. However, please ask our staff about your child's day, and what kind of activities happened in their group.

WHAT IF MY CHILD HAS SPECIAL INCLUSION NEEDS?

We welcome children with special needs; however, our programs are not able to support all needs. Science North cannot provide a 1:1 staff / child ratio. If your child has help at school, consider how they will do without that assistance. Please talk with the Science North team to review your individual child's situation prior to registration by calling 705-523-3188.

WHAT IF MY CHILD ISN'T THE RIGHT AGE FOR THE PROGRAM I WANT TO REGISTER IN?

We try to accommodate whenever we can. So, if your 9-year-old-niece wants to hang out with her 8-year-old cousin, we can find a way to make that work. The only place we draw the line is at the younger end of the age spectrum. The program is designed for 4 and up, not for 3 year olds.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD IS SICK OR HAS HEALTH CONCERNS?

If your child is sick please keep them at home. Contact us to see if we can try to reschedule them to another camp.

Staff members are not permitted to administer any type of medication to participants, and parents will be asked to verify that their child can self-administer. If your child has ongoing medical conditions, please make sure you have talked to staff before hand.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD GETS SICK ON-SITE?

There will be kids who develop an upset tummy, or exhibit symptoms that are common to a variety of ailments. If those symptoms are common to COVID-19, we will separate the child in question and call you to pick up your child.

WHAT IF THERE IS A MEDICAL EMERGENCY?

In the event of a medical emergency, all appropriate first aid measures will be taken to ensure the safety of participants. A staff member certified in first aid is on hand at all times. In the case of site evacuations (ie. power outages) parents will be phoned to pick up their children. Each site has a cell phone, and will remain in contact with Science North through any emergencies.

ALLERGY ALERT: When your child is bringing his or her own food, please be aware of allergies and avoid sending nut products. If there are extreme allergies within the group, we will post that information at each site.

REGISTRATION AND CANCELLATION POLICIES

REGISTRATIONS ARE PROCESSED ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS
Programs require a minimum of four participants to run. Science North reviews registrations on a daily basis, and if a program has less than four registrations two weeks before its start date, parents will be notified that the program has been cancelled and refunds will be issued. All other registrations close 3 days prior to the program start date.

CANCELLATION BY A REGISTRANT
Registrants may cancel their registration prior to the commencement of their camp with the following refunds:

If cancelled 14 or more business days prior to the start of the camp, the full registration fee will be refunded, minus a $10 (plus applicable taxes) service charge.
Cancellations up to two business days before the camp start date will be subject to a service charge of $20 (plus applicable taxes).
Cancellations less than two business days before the camp start date will not be refunded.

CANCELLATION BY SCIENCE NORTH
Science North reserves the right to cancel camps with insufficient registration. In this case, all existing registrants will be notified, and a full refund will be issued. All existing registrants will be notified by phone or email two weeks prior to a possible cancellation.

Science North has a zero-tolerance policy regarding violent behaviour in our camps. Participants may be asked to leave a program if there are concerns about participant and employee safety. Please note that refunds will not be issued should your child be asked to leave the program.

NON PAYMENT
A $50 (plus applicable taxes) service charge will apply to any dishonoured credit card payments or NSF cheques. Science North's liability is limited to refund of registration fees.
