Frequently Asked Questions

What is Science at Home?

Science North Bluecoats will be providing resources for teachers and their students as well as professional learning to support teacher’s delivery of the Ontario Science and Technology Curriculum to students at a distance.

These engaging videos and worksheets will provide teachers with activities that they can do with their students as well as the opportunity to ask questions to get a deeper understanding of the content.

How often do classroom videos occur?

Online classroom videos will be delivered daily, with each day covering a different grade level. Videos geared towards a specific grade will repeat every second week, allowing for four grade-specific workshops in the eight-week schedule. To see your grades schedule visit sciencenorth.ca/teachers and select your grade.

What topics will be covered?

Workshops will cover each of the four strands of the Ontario Science Curriculum; Life Systems, Structures and Mechanisms, Matter and Energy, and Earth and Space Science. When appropriate, workshops will extend learning in areas such as digital literacy and mathematics.

Do I need materials?

The online teacher workshops do not require materials, though Science North will provide teachers with material lists for all the activities so that they can be done with their students. The videos demonstrating the activities will be available for sharing with students.

What if my students don’t have access to technology?

In addition to the videos and handouts which can be provided to students, Science North will also be preparing downloadable lesson plans that will guide parents through experiment procedures to be done at home by parents. These will be delivered to parents on an as-needed basis.
