ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

PHENOMENA: The Exhibition invites you into an immersive, interactive journey through the captivating world of illusions. From the mesmerizing play of optical tricks to the intriguing realm of cognitive distortions, this experience uncovers the science behind what seems impossible. Discover the natural mechanisms that create these wonders and see how the principles of science transform into moments of magic and surprise.

THE MAGIC TABLE

  • Watch your friend's head as it appears to be eerily detached from their body — what's going on???

THE ZERO-GRAVITY ROOM

two young adults traversing the zero-gravity room, young man sitting upside-down on couch with feet pressed against the wall and the young woman above him walking upside-down with one foot on the ceiling and the other outstretched and touching the adjoining wall

  • Can you defy gravity? Experiment with everyday objects, friends, and family to change your perceptions of space.

LADDER TO THE CENTRE OF THE EARTH

two women in a dark room with walls covered in geometric patterns staring down the tunnel of the ladder that journeys down into the centre of the earth

  • How far does the ladder go? Let this illusion play with perceptions of depth.

THE MIRROR MAZE

  • Find your way through the mirror maze. Constructed with mirrors arranged at various angles, which reflect both you and the surroundings, you might find yourself following the right or wrong path until you reach the end.

AMES ROOM

young boy and young girl in the same room but one appears much bigger than the other due to the eye being tricked by depth, perspective, and optical illusions contained within the wallpaper patterns

  • Who is bigger? Who is smaller? Explore how distance and angles can change our visual perceptions.
