2009 has been named the International Year of Astronomy and Science North, in partnership with Laurentian University and the Sudbury Astronomy Club, will be holding a series of free star parties and public presentations at Science North over the next 12 months.
During the March Break, our event is scheduled for Friday, March 20, 2009 starting at 7:30 p.m. with a Star Party outside Science North on the Marketplace. This will be followed by a presentation in the Gold Room about astrophotography by Pat Bedard. Participants will also be able to explore the night sky through Science North’s 12-inch Meade telescope and may see the moons of Jupiter, the Andromeda Galaxy, the Ring Nebula and that beautiful lady of the moon. Yes, the lady of the moon, not the man!

Formed billions of years ago, deep within the Earth, diamonds are the hardest natural substance known to man. Which begs the question; if it’s the hardest natural substance then how do you cut a diamond? Using computers and some of the same tools and equipment seen in jewellery stores, you can size your own diamonds, evaluate colour and determine cut! Find out why diamonds are ‘a girl’s best friend’.

Our staff scientists have developed exciting full-day programs… and there's no need to pack a lunch. A nutritious lunch is included in the registration fee. Before & After Care is available from 7:45 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 5:45 p.m. for an additional fee.
