Science North's F. Jean MacLeod Butterfly Gallery is an exotic paradise in the heart of Northern Ontario, featuring hundreds of tropical butterflies and dozens of flowering, fragrant plants in a glass-enclosed environment attached to our Science Centre. Watch butterflies emerge from pupae and take a close look through powerful magnifiers. Science centre exhibits further explore the world of butterflies and moths.

Admission to the F. Jean MacLeod Butterfly Gallery is included with Science Centre admission; FREE for Science North members.

More Information

Close to 400 free-flying tropical butterflies make their home amidst more than 200 exotic plants, set within a climate-controlled glass structure located near the Science Centre's second floor. Unique features of the gallery include portable feeding stations with attached magnifiers for a close look at some of the 30 butterfly species featured in the gallery, and an "eclosion cabinet" where visitors can watch as dozens of butterflies emerge from hanging pupae. Staff scientists play a key role in the new gallery, answering questions and leading visitors on a journey of scientific discovery.
