Modern Mining & Technology Sudbury (MMTS) Week

Grades 4 to 8

Enter a draw to win a Discovery Sudbury tour with your class! Local students in Grades 4 to 8 will enjoy a Discover Sudbury Field Day! A Discover Sudbury Geology Bus Tour and Dynamic Earth Experience will provide classes from each school board with a unique and interactive experience, opening eyes to the role mining and mining companies have played in building our community and ensuring it maintains its natural beauty for generations to come.

Students and teachers will learn how the mining industry has evolved and how the environment has been restored during this tour of the Sudbury Basin.

Teachers interested in participating please contact Stacey Roy (roystacey@sciencenorth.ca) by April 1st to have their names entered for the draw.


April 17-18, 2019
Grades 7 to 8

Grades 7-8 teachers will participate in a half day workshop that empower them to deliver earth sciences based, curriculum-linked activities in their classrooms. While their teachers are attending workshops and getting innovative materials to share with their students, their grades 7 to 8 students are led by MMTS volunteers through mining-related programming that includes underground tours and mining activities at Dynamic Earth.

April 15-16, 2019
Grades 9 - 12

High school students get a unique experience that is fun, engaging and educational! MineOpportunity encourages friendly competition and teamwork through a game explores geology, engineering and mining. Students answer mining-related questions and take part in activities that are hands-on and curriculum-based. Many MMTS sponsors participate in the day’s events at booths, challenge stops and presentations, adding to the learning experience and reinforcing the importance of working together to make mining successful.
